2019 Conference Intermediate Master Class

date/time: Saturday, November 16, 2019 9:15 AM

place: Hillman Hall, Cullen Center - Westminster Choir College

The NJMTA Intermediate Piano Master Class is NOT an auditioned event. The clinician will select student performers anonymously, based only on their repertoire and age. Selected students will perform during the 2019 NJMTA conference. Dr. Helen Marlais will be the clinician for this year's master class.

Submission Guidelines:

  1. Each teacher may submit a maximum of two students to play in the Master Class. Students who have played in the 2018 and 2017 master class are not eligible to participate in 2019.

  2. Teachers should select pieces from the standard intermediate piano repertoire such as Baroque Minuets/Dances, Bach: Short Preludes & Fugues, Inventions and Sinfonias, Sonatinas by Clementi, Sonatas Op. 49 by Beethoven or early Haydn Sonatas, Chopin’s easier Waltzes, easier Songs Without Words by Mendelssohn, Schumann or Tchaikovsky Albums for the Young, Kabalevsky Children Pieces, etc. There are no required or set pieces to prepare.

  3. No piece should exceed 5 minutes in length.  Pieces should be memorized and well prepared.

  4. Fill out the registration form via NJMTA website.  The deadline for submitting the registration form is October 31, 2019.

  5. After we receive all of the applications, Dr. Marlais will make the selection of 4–5 students to perform at the master class. The names of students who have been selected by the artists will be posted on NJMTA’s website, and the teachers of those students will also be notified via email or phone.   Students are not allowed to change the selection of pieces once selected.

PLEASE NOTE: For selected students, please refer to the registration page for family rate attending the session.
