MASTER CLASS REPERTOIRE
The 2018-19 New Jersey High School all-state solo for flute is J.S. Bach’s Sonata in Eb Major. The piccolo solo is Piccolo Espagnol by J. Christensen.
Each of NJ’s three regions assigns its own repertoire for middle school honor band auditions. This year’s solos include “Menuet from L’Arlesienne Suite” by G. Bizet (SJBODA), "Romance" by G. Brun (CJMEA) and Sonata in F Major, by G. P. Telemann (NJSMA). Students who wish to audition on piccolo play the flute solo for their region.
Due to time restrictions, no recorded audition is necessary this year. Instead, teachers may nominate students to perform on either flute or piccolo for both master classes. Four to six students will be selected to perform in each master class session on either flute or piccolo. Lois Herbine will speak on ways to prepare these pieces for auditions and will take turns working with master class performers individually.
Students are welcome to bring their own accompanists, or may hire the staff accompanist for a rehearsal and the class (additional fee).
